St. Stephen's Charitable Fund is a 501(c)3 approved non-profit
humanitarian aid organization, based in Arkansas USA. It was chartered by the
State of Arkansas in 2005 with a mission to support projects in developing
countries, as well as in the United States, for the care of dependent children
and seniors in need. It works primarily, but not exclusively, through
agencies affiliated with the Catholic Church.
Most of the work of the Fund has been done in Ukraine, a nation which
established its independence from the Soviet Union, in 1991. Even though a
lot of progress has been made there, the most vulnerable in society are still
in great need. There is little public infrastructure to care for them and
even that is now threatened by the global economic situation. We concentrated
our early attention on orphan children, but have recently focused on older
people and mentally handicapped adults.
Another project has been operating in Honduras for several years, in
association with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. We are helping them
with funds to construct one house per year for a family which could not
otherwise hope to have their own home. It is a good partnership; these folks
are excellent stewards of resources and caregivers in the finest of the
Christian tradition.
We have hope of entering into new projects, here at home and, possibly,
in Haiti, as resources are available. Any future project must conform to our
mission of support to provide material and/or educational resources for those
who would most likely have to do without. Please view the following pages for
a description of our projects.
